Liquid error: Could not find asset snippets/responsive-image.liquid

I am amongst the moms who wanted to exclusively breastfeed until six months and continue to a year alongside solids. My first daughter was born at 37 weeks. She had a hard time latching and learning to suckle. It took a few days of training with pumped milk, a syringe, and tube to help her master swallowing. Three months seemed a breeze, then my supply began dropping, quite evident from a hungry four-month-old within minutes of feeding. I responded by pumping milk to keep her sustained for longer. From that point on, she refused to feed at the breast and...

My son was born via an emergency C-section that literally happened in 15 minutes.I lost a lot of blood but came out of the general anesthesia and the first thing on my mind was I need to breastfeed my son. The doctors were not optimistic and tried to set the expectation that it was going to be a long road -- my body needed to refocus from just surviving to breastfeeding. I’m an adoptive mom and we adopted our son at birth. It took two years to get to that point so my husband and I had time to think about what we could potentially do around feeding. We were quite nervous about it so I knew some women get breast milk from a donor bank, but we landed on doing formula. We thought it’s not ideal but we can do things like skin-to-skin contact. I was hopeful my wife would have a positive breastfeeding experience. She was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when she was five so she's dealt with medical issues all her life. The pregnancy process for T1Ds is rigorous and she needed to acutely manage her health. When it came to breastfeeding, her goal was to get to six months if possible. For me, because pregnancy had been so hard for her, I really hoped this one thing went well because I knew she would be disappointed if it didn’t. Our daughter was born and it was going okay in the...

Prior to having my baby boy, I was told I had less than 5% chance of getting pregnant naturally. I started tapping into all the natural and holistic things I could do for my body. Finally, I received a positive pregnancy test and I was beyond myself. Like any other parent told we wouldn’t be able to get pregnant, we wanted everything to be perfect and natural. I was completely convinced I would breastfeed. I had a very long labor and an issue with my placenta, it wasn’t coming out. I don’t know if that caused the hemorrhage I had...
